Spotlight:
Marilyn who said, "Remus Lupin... how could I love anyone more? He is by far the greatest character in the Harry Potter series. I admire him, and all he is, just like so many others do. He has so many favourable qualities. Remus Lupin is intelligent, bookish, smart... and yet you cannot limit him to that. He is a Marauder, a prankster. We can see clearly his lovely sense of humour- he is responsible and yet reckless. Remus is a person who has suffered greatly. Bitten at a young age by Fenrir Greyback, he has lived the painful life of a werewolf. Only a few years out of Hogwarts he lost his closest friends, and yet struggled on. He finally regained some of what he had lost, only to have the Veil of death snatch it away. His strength gives me strength. His depth inspires me to be all that I can be. It saddens me that he could not live out his life in happiness, as he deserves, but at least he is at rest now, at peace, and he is finally home where his true family have been waiting for him. At last the Marauders are reunited. Rest in Peace, Remus John Lupin."

Remus Lupin has been a hero of mine ever since I read The Prisoner of Azkaban as a child. I connected with him, adored him; he influenced the kind of person I'd grow up to be, and I'm glad for it. I wish I'd had him as a teacher growing up. He's not a perfect man - he wouldn't be nearly so effective if he was - but he's a strong one. For all his regrets, all his mistakes, he keeps struggling to make his place in the world, to make things better, to keep his friends safe. His persecution made me so furious, and that helped me as well, to shape what I fight for. He's an amazing man, a wonderful character, and my life is better for having known him.

Remus Lupin is the best HP character there ever was. Not only is he extremely cute (not counting the badly casted Remus from the HP movies), but he's also sweet and kind and the last person he thinks of is himself. He values friendship and loyalty and there's absolutely no one that hates him. He is an amazing person, friendly and absolutely kind-hearted, and doesn't say 'boo' to the people that bring predjudice on him everyday. It's sad how much he hates himself for what he is, and I love him. :P

Remus is my favourite person in the HP books *duh* Most people see Remus as a hard strong rock to lean on but actually, he is a person who suffers a lot. He is also very stubborn because when Tonks asked him to marry her. I suppose it is because he is a werewolf and he feels bad about that. Altogether, he is kind, caring, loyal, and just. Also, I think David Thewlis is very hot (hee, hee, you guessed it, I AM a fangirl) and portrays Lupin very well.

Remus was like a father to me. I never expected him to die. The only reason I see for his death is so that Teddy was orphaned and harry would have a shadow. But his death seemed so surreal. I was in denial. Remus' funny wit and amazing wisdom of understanding reminds me of Brian. It is impossible for me to ever imagine Remus dead. His was the most unpredictable and depressing death (Dumbledore's was obvious). I thought, surely, Jo will take some pity on this man who has suffered all his life, outcast, and spare him, but her pen is merciless. Remus, you're my werewolf of London!

The loss of my favorite charactor Remus Lupin was devistating! He was the most likeable charactor in the whole series. If It wasn't bad enought for all of us Lupin fans, we also lost his wife Nymphadora Tonks. He will always be remembered in our hearts!!

I like Remus Lupin because he is a true friend and an honorable wizard. He helps the Order even though he is in a rough situation. He tries to help Harry in whatever way he can, and is never discouraging or hurtful. His werewolf curse is his downfall but he always tries to keep others safe. He is true to the end.

I am a fan of Remus Lupin because he is different. He has to fight bad characters - like Voldemort - and he has to fight to himself also. I think this fighting is harder than the other. Living with an illness is really difficult...

Ever since we heard from Professor R.J. Lupin in the train carriage in PoA, it was a truly fantastic experience for me to finally have my first crush on a book character. This is no girlish squeeing, I promise; I just felt an extreme connection to the poor, fatigued werewolf sleeping on the train. I believe we all can feel some connection, later on: first, a refusal to Tonks; "Too poor, too old, too sick." For her safety, as was the second time, a wish to leave home, Tonks and Teddy, just so they could be safe. An obligation every spouse and father feels to every child. I cried when he left Hogwarts, while reading the book and watching the movie. I cried when he left us, along with Tonks- they were my favorite characters, as well as members of my favorite Rowling ship. It's sad to see a favorite character go; but it's sadder when you know that they couldn't help it. Yours in tribute, Ellen

I have to admit; when I first read the Prisoner of Azkaban, I suspected Remus as the traitor inside Hogwarts. Snape's little hints, Remus' connection to James and Sirius, and the fact that he was a new character we had never met before got my suspicions up. I liked him as a character, but it wasn't until a few months after PoA came out that I fell in love with him. Remus has integrity. He's the sort of man who isn't afraid to stand up for himself and for others at his own expense. He's also got an enormous amount of empathy and tact, besides being a highly talented wizard. He's a loyal friend, a wonderful teacher, and a gentleman no matter what the situation. He's got a bit of a martyr/guilt complex, but it only makes him more lovable in the fact that we know he isn't perfect. It makes him more alive, more real, and it doesn't matter to me so much anymore that JKR killed him; I'm not in denial, but I choose to set aside the fact that he died and remember him for the man he was...and still is, if you go back and read PoA, OoTP, HBP, and most of DH. The ones we love never truly leave us.

Remus Lupin and Tonks were my favourite characters. I was very happy when they got married. I was devastated when they both died. Professor Lupin was a great teacher and wonderful friend. He had a hard life but he never give up to help others. I'll never forget them.

Since the third book, I have felt sorry for Remus and admired his strong morals and kind heart. But it was his influence, the caring way he taught Harry, and his bravery in the face of something that killed those he treasured most that truly left an imprint. He is an example of what a good human being should be in many ways: In overcoming prejudice, rising above the past, fighting for what you know is right, and helping those who are in need. Although Remus had difficulty seeing the good in himself, those who knew him would not hesitate to do it for him. These are the thoughts that shall come to mind forever more when thinking upon the Last Marauder.

Remus John Lupin was the most kind person in the Harry Potter books. He did not tease Snape, he only did not prevent it in fear of losing his friends. He thought James, Sirius, and Peter would leave him if they found out he was a werewolf. But they did not, which made their friendship stronger, if it could get stronger. I am very sad he died, along with his wife, Tonks. I lost my two favorite characters in Deathly Hallows. RIP REMUS JOHN LUPIN, WEREWOLF, HUSBAND, FATHER, AND SON.

Lupin is my favourite character - followed by Tonks. I still cant accept that he died. It was so unfair :( I will not accept it! And the fact that Tonks died too was horrible. He is a brilliant character and so nice too. I'm in love with him. :)

Remus Lupin is my favourite Marauder and I'd have to say I was quite devestated when I read in DH that he had died! Although quite glad that he and Tonks are survived by Teddy. I adore Remus Lupin and always will!

Like many others, I fell in love with Remus after reading PoA, when he was first introduced as the new Professor of Defence Against the Dark Arts. Although he only taught at Hogwarts for a year, he bought compassion, tolerance, and gentle humour into the classroom, not only endearing him to his students but also to us, the readers. Yet, as we saw this kind, clever young teacher building his students confidence, we were also witnessing a man fighting a secret battle with lycanthropy. Although he hides it well, throughout the subsequent books we see that he fears the wolf in him and as a result, he finds it difficult to see his positive traits; even, at times, doubting his own worth completely and believing that his loved ones (his wife and unborn child) should be ashamed of him and are better off without him. In the end, however, he comes to realise that he isn't defined by being a werewolf and that, even though it may not be an easy road, his loved ones need him and that he is as important to them as they are to him. Demonstrating bravery, he stays and in doing so, experiences one of the greatest joys of his life; the birth of his child, a son. Sadly, shortly after this, he dies in battle - fighting for a better world for the son he loved so much. Although I first appreciated Remus for his cleverness and kindness as a teacher, his devotion to his family and the bravery that he demonstrates both with his inner battle with lycanthropy and in the war generally, only makes me admire him more. I'd like to say thank you to J.K. Rowling for creating this wonderful character and immortalising him in her series of magical books. I know that he will continue to inspire me, and many others, for a long time to come.

I never cried so hard from a character dying. Thinking abut it now still makes my heart heavy. Lupin was an amazing fellow. He was so sweet and caring. I also felt so bad for him. It seems wrong that just when he's a bit happy, he's killed off. RIP Remus J. Lupin, the best DADA teacher, sane Marauder, and lovable werewolf. You are seriously missed.

Why do I like Remus Lupin? I think that he is the best character in the series! I wish he could have been in every book. It made me really sad at the end when he died. I actually cried! I like him because he is brave, friendly, and intelligent.

Dear Remus, since I met you for the first time you’ve been a great friend. I think many parts of your personality are very similar to mine. Meeting a character with a disability meant also very much to me - although sitting in a wheelchair is surely different to being a werewolf ;) You will always be a part of me. Love, Liane.

Remus Lupin, a character in the Harry Potter series, has affected me because in some way I can relate to him. Being the good one from a group of friends, I often realize I cut them a lot of slack. He was also really awesome, on the fact that he only wanted what was best for Nymphadora and his son Ted.

I immediately felt a connection to Remus from the 3rd book. I find his qualities amazing. I felt really sorry for him in the 3rd film when he resigned and he was used to people disliking him. I am glad he and Tonks got together. I think that she would be able to be happy for him in any way. She also has a strong sense of character so I think Remus being a werewolf doesn't bother her. I decided to write a story on a website called quizilla. It originally was going to be just about Severus Snape and another character but I decided to give Lupin some happiness aswell. I think David Thewlis played him really well.

Why I like Remus? I think he's an awesome charater. He's different, kind-hearted, and very frendily. I think JKR should have done more of him in the movies. I was very saddened in the final book. It did make me cry.

I've liked Remus Lupin since the moment he woke up from his slumber in the train to Hogwarts to fight the dementors. I like the way he prefers to hurt himself than to hurt others, the way he treates the kids as young adults and, above all, his mature point of view compared to other characters of his same age (Sirius or Severus, for instance). He has suffered a lot and it shows in the way he views the world. The world is been anything but kind to him, and still he fights to make it better, until the end. Let's that set an example.

I love Remus. I know everyone says that but they mean it, well I do at least. I love all the marauders (although not Wormtail so much as he betrayed them). A word of advice - when I say I love Remus, I do not mean in the way that Tonks does. I mean I look up to him and admire him and such like, but I do not mean that I want to marry him! I don't know if I'm the only one that feels sorry for him and wants to give him a big hug and whatever or not. I cried when he was killed. Still, at least he and the other marauders are together again. And I have just got a new teacher who looks like a teenage version of Remus... hmmm.

When asked my favorite Harry Potter character, most may think that I'd choose Harry himself, Ron, Hermione, or perhaps one of the popular adults like Dumbledore or Snape. While all of these people (and every character for that matter) are amazing in their own ways, none holds a place in my heart like Remus John Lupin. And this is how I explain it to people when I'm asked why (and believe me, I’m asked WHY?): I believe him to be one of the, if not THE, most damaged characters in the series. At one point he loses all three of his best friends: he believes that Sirius betrayed and killed James and Peter. He then finds out that it was Peter who was to blame and finally has Sirius back as a trusted friend, only to lose him again two years later. It is often seen as a devastating event for Harry, but it is heartbreaking to see the effect Sirius’ death has on Lupin as well. “He can’t come back, Harry,” said Lupin, his voice breaking as he struggled to contain Harry. --- Lupin turned away from the archway as he spoke. It sounded as though every word was causing him pain (OotP p.807-808). From his first moments in Prisoner of Azkaban and through the end of Half-Blood Prince, I have also found him to be the best role model and parental figure for Harry. He is not as reckless as Sirius, but not as over-protective as Molly Weasley. Remus has provided him with information about his parents, which he so desperately wanted. He also believed Harry had the right to know things involving the Order of the Phoenix, but recognized there should be a limit. It was very clear how much he truly cared for Harry. Needless to say, I was ecstatic to see that Remus and Tonks were married early on in Deathly Hallows. I was also very happy to see the large role that he played in the final installment of the series. It didn’t surprise me at all that he would offer Harry, Ron, and Hermione help on their journey, but it was horrible, though understandable, to see the way that he so often felt about himself. He was constantly struggling with how others saw him and how he saw himself in the surrounding world. It was reassuring to see that he was at least able to enjoy his last remaining days with his wife and newborn child. What else is there to say other than the fact that J.K. Rowling created a character that was endearing, clever, respectable, and brave. And I thank her for that, as I’m sure many others do as well.
